Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award
Award Description
This award honors senior faculty
who, as men and women of outstanding scholarly accomplishment, combined
with excellence in teaching, personify our image of the professorate.
It carries an honorarium of $5000 to support the Distinguished
Scholar-Teacher's professional activities. This
year's lectures will take place in the fall semester. The attached
poster provides dates, times, locations, and in some cases, brief abstracts
of the lecture topics.
Criteria
The nominee should have been a current member of our faculty for a minimum of
five years and should hold the rank of tenured Professor/Principal Agent.
Nominees should be men and women possessing a record of outstanding scholarly
accomplishment combined with demonstrated excellence in teaching. Nominations
may be made by any full-time permanent faculty member.
Nomination Process
The nominator should submit the name of their nominee
via on-line
registration by October 3rd .
If the nominee accepts the nomination, the following
documents should be submitted by November 3rd in an unbound package
to:

The package should include:
- A detailed letter of nomination, which should convey special
qualities as an educator and researcher, indications of influential achievements,
notable awards and other forms of recognition.
- A brief statement from the nominee on how he/she integrates research
and teaching.
- The nominee's current curriculum vitae, signed and dated.
- Documentation about the nominee’s teaching accomplishments.
This may include:
- A listing of courses taught over the past five years.
- Summarized
and analyzed student teaching evaluations.
- Information related to curriculum development, student mentoring, or innovative
teaching techniques.
- Description of teaching awards received.
- Letters of support from no more than five current
or past students.
- Letters of support (or copies of past peer reviews) from no
more than three colleagues who are especially knowledgeable
about nominee’s
teaching.
- Documentation about the nominee’s research accomplishments.
This may include:
- Media reviews.
- Citation analyses.
- Description of major honors received.
- Letters of endorsement from no more than five individuals
outside the university.
