This procedural manual is also available in pdf format.

Please share the manual with faculty members of all ranks. Candidates for promotion may find it helpful in anticipating their own tenure reviews because it contains input from previous Campus APT Committees, the Provost, and President.

This manual contains three kinds of information:

1. The formal UMCP Policy on Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure of Faculty (II-1.00 A) which contains mandatory procedures for review of dossiers.

2. A set of administrative procedures governing the preparation of candidates' dossiers and the review process for faculty on tenured or tenure-track lines. The procedural guide grows out of the APT policy but provides more specific detail on compiling a dossier and handling specific situations not dealt with in the APT policy, such as joint appointments.

3. A set of best practices based on suggestions from past university APT and Appeals committees.

These three kinds of information are differentiated by typeface (as above) and, for the formal policy requirements, specific line citations have been inserted. In general, in each section, the policy will be presented first, followed by administrative procedures and then suggestions.
