*Searchable databases of properties for sale: The homes listed in the following databases provide an idea of the type and cost of housing available in various nearby communities. Each enables prospective buyers to conduct customized searches of real estate listings. These databases are: homesdatabase.com, realestate.com and realtor.com.

*Searchable listings of classified ads: The Washington Post, Washington Times, and the Baltimore Sun offer searchable listings of homes for sale.

State Mortgage Assistance

*More House 4 Less is a state funded program designed to assist first time home buyers (and those who have not owned a home for three years). Individuals who do not exceed set income levels, which vary depending on the home's location and household size, may qualify for a grant to pay closing costs. The grant is equal to 2 or 3% of the home's mortgage (although the mortgage interest rate is slightly higher than market value, typically 1/8% higher on a 40 year mortgage).
