Notification of Delay of Mandatory Tenure Review Due to Childbirth or Adoption
Procedures and Form
A tenure-track faculty member
who has become a parent through birth or adoption of a child, will automatically be
granted a tenure delay,
upon mandatory written notification by the faculty member’s unit.
NOTE that a second automatic extension for the birth
or adoption of another child will be granted as long as the total number
of all extensions does not exceed two. The procedures for completing the
notification process follow.
- After having been given notice
by the faculty member of the child’s arrival, it is the Chair’s
responsibility to initiate the formal process. Normally, this process should
be initiated within a month of the child's arrival.
- The Chair and faculty member should sign the Notification
of Delay of Mandatory Tenure Review Due to Childbirth or Adoption form.
- If this process is initiated significantly after the arrival of the
child, the Chair should indicate the reason for the delay on the notification
form.
- The completed form should be forwarded to the
Office of the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs.
- The Office of the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs will provide copies
of the notification to the Provost, Dean, Chair, faculty
member and to the Office of Academic Personnel and Budget, which will make
the actual change of tenure review year in the University's database systems.
